Kapa Haka

My syndicate (Moana) lined up in the hall in our rows. Today, Tuesday, was Kapa Haka. We couldn’t do Kapa Haka at the festival since there was covid, so a man came in to film us.

3,2,1, ACTION! Kaia, I.E Klara and Zoe, called out to start. To start, the kaia must say “Hopi!” Which means hands on hips. Then Koka Sue strummed on her guitar. “ Utaina, Toru wha”  Called Zoe. We all burst into the song actions and all and I was very nervous but I soon got over it.

The next song we performed was  “Ka- waiata” a song with no actions but just a takahia, which is a light stomp from the foot. As we sang the boys did harmony layers over top. I noticed that the camera kept zooming in on me, so I kinda felt weird. I also looked a little weird in the after film.

Thirdly, We performed “Rona” which is about a selfish lady then the moon pulls her up there and she is sad. This song included the poi which is a small squishy ball like white thing with a long string to hold onto. Then the second round for the song,(we did it twice) the two front rows went down on their knees (I.E. Me, the front and second row).

Then we did “Ka pana pana” which is a girls and boys haka. The leaders were Zoe and Klara like I said earlier. Then half way through, the girls moved back and the boys moved forward getting ready for the Haka.

After “Ka pana pana” the boys did the haka. The girls also did the haka (but not the actions).

We had to do the harmonies over top. The boy Kaia, Screamed a little to loud but it was our only video and so far I was glad with the results.

Then we did the last song, “Toia mai” which is similar to the song “utaina” (about waka). This song had actions in it and they boys did a mini haka over top of the second round. (the second round is the girls do the song again but the boys do the haka over top).

Then the songs finished! I was so glad, we had done very well.

Ilminster Green Team Recount

On the 16 of November 2021, my syndicate (Moana) went to watch a play that the Ilminster Green Team put on every 2 years for some of the schools. When we were settled on our seats, a Year 8 boy came out and introduced the play and what it’s message was about. Then the play started.

A Year 8 dressed as a nanny crayfish came out along with a semi old kina and two younger crayfishes.

Firstly, the Crayfish was called Nanny Koura. (The Maori name for Crayfish). She told a story to the eldest of the young crayfish. 4 friends come out and dump their litter around the skate park. They laughed and joked and then went away. Leaving the place a MESS!

Then, that night, 3 aliens, two servants, and the King of the Morons came out. When they saw the mess they thought that they could dump their stuff there too, and so they did. They even dumped their friendly companion, the robot. They piled all their stuff on top of the robot and left the planet.

When the kids came back the next day, they cried out in despair as their precious skate park had been ruined. They went to nanny Koura and begged for advice. Nanny Koura refused, at first, but then the problem got worse, as the aliens came back with another pile of rubbish. So Nanny Koura went up to the aliens. In surprise the aliens mistook Nanny Koura for the queen of the Morons and begged for mercy. She went along with it and frowned at them in disgrace, so she made them all work together to make the skate park clean and then it was the end.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the play as its message was good and It was very humorous. At the end they did a dance and we asked lots of questions. It was a very great play and I can’t wait to go to Ilminster next year! The play was very advising and I hope I get to be in the Green Team next year.

The new pool

After Athletics day I went to the Okitu store to get an Ice cream and then we went home. When we got home, we started to fill up our pool, and then our cousins: Elke, Gjord, Fiske and Ursula arrived. So did Crispy, (Fiske and Ursula’s dog) Auntie Heidi and Auntie Petra.

We had a fun day splashing around in the water. I was sliding along the bottom of the ankle high water on my tummy like a penguin. The bottom of the pool was so slippery that when you try to crawl along the bottom, your hand slip up. Charlotte, my friend, taught me how to do it but she accidentally kept face-planting on the walls of the pool. Luckily, I wasn’t that good and didn’t crash into the wall.

Then  the neighbours, Millie, Hosea, Sol, Abe, Biggie and Stanley came over. There were soooo many people in the pool so Elke, Gjord, Fiske, Ursula, Clem and I all got out leaving 6 left in the pool. Wow there were 12 people in the pool. That's a lot.

My Holidays

On Friday the 16th my cousins and my family met at the Wainui surf club for a play on the sand. When we got there, there was a crystal clear lagoon just waiting for us. On the side there was a small River of water trickling down to the ocean. (Luckily I brought my togs)

Me and my cousins played in the water all day, I brought my boogie board and Clem pulled me all the way down the stream at top speed. Then, on a sharp turn, Clem Suddenly jumped on to the bank and the board swerved into the bank and I face-planted in the sand flying forward. It was so funny I tried doing it on Ursula but when I stopped she rolled off the board and down to the ocean. I also threw wet seaweed on my Fiske’s back for splashing water over me.

Then it became a game of stealing seaweed girls v boys. Me, Elke, and Ursula crept along the bottom of the lagoon like crocodiles. Then, we ran across the sand and stole the seaweed off Clem, Fiske and Gjord. Then I guarded the pile of seaweed like a guard dog crouching over the pile swinging my arms.

When it was time to go, we all went to Auntie Heidi's house for a play. Ursula and Elke fought over me so I ran to the boys and we all hid. It became a game of hide and go seek tag. Clem tricked the girls telling them I had gone to the chickens when I was down in the creek.

When Ursula and Elke found out, they went down the steep bank. Slid down and got ready in the tree. Then her butt got wet on the rocks in the creek. But by the time Ursula got down we were long gone down in the Orchard surrounded by  bees and blackberries.

Following Hamanatua

Yesterday my teacher Koka Rosie and Koka Ngaire took us down to Hamanatua stream so that we could see where it started. We walked down along scarlys way and down the road to a rusty old gate leading down to a small stream that fed into the Hamanatua awa.

There were three people in front of me and they all walked through the knee height stream tripping and stumbling. Then when it was my turn I spotted a plank of wood and I lept to the other side without getting wet. I don’t mind getting wet but being wet for the whole day while walking all over the show would be annoying.

The others behind me cheered and yelled as I landed safely and when the others tried to copy…. Well that was a bit harsh: Trey belly-flopped in the water and Keylaine lost her shoe in the mud. So many people fell in the mud and I was glad I wasn’t too muddy but then: Koka Rosie handed me the toilet paper so she could put away her jacket, and… I didn’t have laces on so I got stuck.

To make it worse my shoes fell off and I had to go down on my knees and search through the mud.  My whole body was covered with mud: I couldn’t even eat because I had soooo much mud on my hand. I was cold, uncomfy and hungry but I was determined to find where the awa started.

On the way back across the stream, Neko fell in the water. With all the eyes on him he decided to pour some swamp water on his armpits and pretend to wash himself. And back at class he wore no pants, just undies.

P.S: Also, if you are wondering what happened to the toilet paper I gave It to Josie who dropped it on the ground, later we gave the brown, sticky, muddy roll of paper back to her...

Blog 103

 Blog 103

Yesterday after lunch my class (RM2) went to the life education truck. Our old teacher, Matua Beau and his companion Harled taught us about the human body in the brain and how it works.  We learnt of this called nerve-ons. They are the smart bits in your brain and babies have up to 85-100 billion nerve-ons! We also saw a video on a boy called Billy. The video was to help us make predictions about people that want to help, and people that don’t.

Sorry! Small blog post!!

Zombie

Just incase don’t get offended by this post… Also It was my quickwrite.

Bring! I answered the phone and a tough sounding voice grunted: “”Gees, Kid, come on, we're waiting for you! Haven’t you heard about the zombie that crash-landed on mars!?”” “”Look.  Matt, I don’t have time for all your problems, I am going to play at a pub tonight! I have missed so many gigs!”” I replied

Now, you’re probably wondering “what is going on”. Well, I work as a RETIRED spy and I am a famous guitar player. Matt (my boss) gets stressed because after Earth blew up, (I blew it up by accident) I decided to quit my job because I didn’t want to cause any more trouble.

Now, Matt was down on his knees, “”please help me! Also a zombie captured all the other agents”” he begged “”Look out behind you!”” I called as a hideous zombie pierced its knife through his heart.

“”Look here boy”” it snarled “”I am coming to get you. Do you hear? I won’t rest until my knife has your blood on it. Then the screen went blank.

Later I was all suited up. I picked up the tracking device and headed towards the door. The tracking device led to the mall. I gulped.

Oh no!What if the zombie finds these people inside, I must stop this zombie now! I thought as I climbed through the smashed glass and up the gooey stairs (Goo from the zombie).

I climbed the stairs all the way up to the roof. When I got there, there was a green zombie waiting for me: Bloody and boney. Luckily the battle only lasted 3 days with cup-of-tea breaks in the middle. Then I punched the zombie in the face and it died.
