Cooks Cove and the Earthquake

Cooks Cove walk and the Earthquake

I woke up to a fresh start ready for Cooks Cove walk. I had packed my bag the day before so I could get to school nice and early. I had already experienced the 4 times and so knew what to pack.

My class and I had been put into groups to drive, Then we would change groups for the walk. We gathered at the bottom of the hill. Once we were in our groups we lined up in a single file with our parent Lee at the back.  The reason why we did this walk was because we were training for Camp. Koka Rosie and Koka Nagrie said that Cooks Cove was similar to the walks up at camp.

On the walk me and Kale’a were yapping away about the steep drop at our feet. By half way all the mussels in our bodies were aching and pleading to stop and rest. But with our cherreyness and Lee’s jokes it kept us going. As we past we thought if we were mini pixies then we could live in the nooks and crannies and all the possible places, Then, our thoughts were interrupted by the sound of gasping and hushing me and kale’a hurried forward to see a tiny morepork staring down at us with beady eyes. But the kids in front of us got louder and the morepork flew away.

With great pride we walked to the end feelling happy. Then we got to the cove, It had a big dotted smiley face engraved into it. It was high tide, so there was no going for and explore along the dry powdery rocks.

That night I was woke up. It was about 2 in the morning and I remembered about the morepork. Just as I was about to doze off I was startled by tremendous shaking . I called out to mum but she was already ready. She leaped out of bed and yanked clem up. All my nerves were feeling like they could pop out of my bodie. After it had gone mum raced to the bed grabbed a blanket and a sleeping bag and raced to our car with us tailing close behind. When we got in the car mum explained that there was a warning called long and strong be gone. We evacuated to Wheatstone hill about 90 other cars were up there(luckily we were one of the first ones up there). After 4 hours up on the hill we headed back down(there was still cars arriving) When we were at home we were going to go back to sleep when the Tsunami warning went off again. Oh what a night!

Aiming for a Green-Gold School

When I walked into school,I noticed that most kids had buckets in their hands and scruffy clothes. As I joined up with my friend Josie, she noticed as well. “Oh I forgot” she said.”Today is action day!” And I replied…”what is action day?” But she said nothing. As we gathered on the mat the teachers explained that we were a Silver Enviro school, They said today we would meet our enviro person Kauri and she would tell us which part of the school we would work in.

First we would learn some more things about the environment, then we would go out and start pulling out weeds and harvest the kumara.

Weeding was tough and five kids got to do the fun stuff (harvesting the food),

but after we had settled into the job, we were like machines. Half way through I got chosen to help harvest the kumara. (I was like a dog digging for bones in the sand). One time I found a big bunch of ten kumara but Koka Rosie asked for Josie to pick them. Soon afterward we had 11 butternuts, 3 pumpkins , 5 rockmelons and 500 kumara, all shapes and sizes.

We had a great day! Boy I am going to sleep well tonight!

( I diden't there was a mossi bugging me)

We are going surfing because we are year 6's now! Most of the year 6's go surfing it is so much fun, to bad I won't be here next year. On wednesday we are going to swimming sports and I am competing in all 3. Today we are going to the Marae we have already walked our Monga and our Awa. We are going to camp in 2 weeks. I will tell u more in week 8.

Crazy year

I have 1,0000 things on Camp, birthday parties, school surf, dentist, kip mcgrath, holiday (to castle hill), My dads beer fest, nana coming up, and easter. I should say to the people over seas: " You think its so busy with the fact that there's covid 19 and millions of people are suffering and the fact that donald trump got kicked out by Joe Biden. Well all the stuff I have been through and is going to go through seems worse.

Art                                                                                                                  I love art, but it has been to much! Everyone is struggling  to keep up! It has                                                    taken me weeks to complete art tasks  and I am only half way through!                                         And we are doing more art in 1 day. So far we have done 2021 art , about me (art)                                                                   and now we are working on collaborative art and our pepeha.    I just finished                           my pepeha 2 mins ago another piece of art done!  (I am chipping away at this blog)

Year 6 surfing

Most of the kids my year are surfing except me and kale'a we are  boogie boarding. And I want to surf because the flippers are so irritating.  We have 10 mins to go swimming so that's a bonus.

Today I went surfing! And I stood up on the board! It was so much fun. Silke was my adult, josie was so jealous she pushed me off the board and I fell in the water(the water was deep, crystal clear but no waves out the back) I guess she wanted to take my board,but......I pushed her onto her own board and she "CAUGHT" a wave.
