Kapa Haka

My syndicate (Moana) lined up in the hall in our rows. Today, Tuesday, was Kapa Haka. We couldn’t do Kapa Haka at the festival since there was covid, so a man came in to film us.

3,2,1, ACTION! Kaia, I.E Klara and Zoe, called out to start. To start, the kaia must say “Hopi!” Which means hands on hips. Then Koka Sue strummed on her guitar. “ Utaina, Toru wha”  Called Zoe. We all burst into the song actions and all and I was very nervous but I soon got over it.

The next song we performed was  “Ka- waiata” a song with no actions but just a takahia, which is a light stomp from the foot. As we sang the boys did harmony layers over top. I noticed that the camera kept zooming in on me, so I kinda felt weird. I also looked a little weird in the after film.

Thirdly, We performed “Rona” which is about a selfish lady then the moon pulls her up there and she is sad. This song included the poi which is a small squishy ball like white thing with a long string to hold onto. Then the second round for the song,(we did it twice) the two front rows went down on their knees (I.E. Me, the front and second row).

Then we did “Ka pana pana” which is a girls and boys haka. The leaders were Zoe and Klara like I said earlier. Then half way through, the girls moved back and the boys moved forward getting ready for the Haka.

After “Ka pana pana” the boys did the haka. The girls also did the haka (but not the actions).

We had to do the harmonies over top. The boy Kaia, Screamed a little to loud but it was our only video and so far I was glad with the results.

Then we did the last song, “Toia mai” which is similar to the song “utaina” (about waka). This song had actions in it and they boys did a mini haka over top of the second round. (the second round is the girls do the song again but the boys do the haka over top).

Then the songs finished! I was so glad, we had done very well.

Blog 103

 Blog 103

Yesterday after lunch my class (RM2) went to the life education truck. Our old teacher, Matua Beau and his companion Harled taught us about the human body in the brain and how it works.  We learnt of this called nerve-ons. They are the smart bits in your brain and babies have up to 85-100 billion nerve-ons! We also saw a video on a boy called Billy. The video was to help us make predictions about people that want to help, and people that don’t.

Sorry! Small blog post!!

Zombie

Just incase don’t get offended by this post… Also It was my quickwrite.

Bring! I answered the phone and a tough sounding voice grunted: “”Gees, Kid, come on, we're waiting for you! Haven’t you heard about the zombie that crash-landed on mars!?”” “”Look.  Matt, I don’t have time for all your problems, I am going to play at a pub tonight! I have missed so many gigs!”” I replied

Now, you’re probably wondering “what is going on”. Well, I work as a RETIRED spy and I am a famous guitar player. Matt (my boss) gets stressed because after Earth blew up, (I blew it up by accident) I decided to quit my job because I didn’t want to cause any more trouble.

Now, Matt was down on his knees, “”please help me! Also a zombie captured all the other agents”” he begged “”Look out behind you!”” I called as a hideous zombie pierced its knife through his heart.

“”Look here boy”” it snarled “”I am coming to get you. Do you hear? I won’t rest until my knife has your blood on it. Then the screen went blank.

Later I was all suited up. I picked up the tracking device and headed towards the door. The tracking device led to the mall. I gulped.

Oh no!What if the zombie finds these people inside, I must stop this zombie now! I thought as I climbed through the smashed glass and up the gooey stairs (Goo from the zombie).

I climbed the stairs all the way up to the roof. When I got there, there was a green zombie waiting for me: Bloody and boney. Luckily the battle only lasted 3 days with cup-of-tea breaks in the middle. Then I punched the zombie in the face and it died.

3rd BandQuest Practice

On Tuesday, Me and the rest of the OPEN DOORZ  band had a 3rd practice because

BandQuest was 20 days away. We were slowly getting it right and we had a full long

practice that was from 1.30 to 3.30pm.

The two songs that we were playing are: Happen to me (by Benee) and So True (by the Black Seeds).

And I am on guitar solo for both songs. Band quest is very fun and I think you should try it out

if you know an instrument. Maybe next blog I will send a recording of our songs.

My Writing

This might be a bit offensive because it's about stuff like tsunamis and tornadoes. For our priorities I did this story starter: Suddenly, his phone rang.

Suddenly his phone rang. Jason, who was walking down an ally to the beach, picked up the phone. “Get outta there! Now!” Screamed a panicked voice “What?” Questioned Jason “tsunami! but I gotta go and warn the others. Get out of there now !” Jason looked up. Tsunami. It was too late for Jason to get up a hill so he climbed up a nearby tree which led him to the roof of a 6 story building. From there, Jason filmed.

The tsunami swept all of the cars aside carrying them away. A massive fishing boat got dragged into the water filled car parking lot and got completely crushed underneath the low lying iron bridge. Jason cringed, turning away and tugging at his fringe.

Suddenly, Jason saw something horrifying. A strong tornado set a straight course towards him and the others on top of the building. As it got closer, it gained speed sucking in people and then spitting them out like backfiring bullets at top speed. People scattered flinging themselves out of the building to get swallowed up into the tsunami. A young toddler, on the other side of the building, got swept away leaving a trail of pee forming a puddle.

Just as the tornado grabbed Jason's arm, he fell into the opening trap door beneath him. The tsunami grew stronger. The whole building next door collapsed. The people inside tumbled out like ants. But, before he could jump off the building, the evil tornado whisked him away .

Jason's top wirled off. So did his pants, and, well, also the underwear. “EEK” He shrieked before he got dumped next to the king on a very tall hill. The crowd gasped in horror as Jason turned and ran off a cliff by accident.

‘Into the tsunami’ thought Jason as it whisked him away. Luckily a branch curled above his head. Jason climbed on. Then, his eyes got hooked on a familiar family: The Eggs.            They jumped on the fishing boat and headed towards the tsunami hoping they would go over it. But it didn't. “Well, this will never end,” said Jason rolling his eyes as the upside down boat smashed into a tall glass building.

BandQuest Practice

 BandQuest Practice

After lunch, on Tuesday, me, Josie, Ella, Nathan, Stavis, Bill and Louie practiced our 2 songs to enter into the amazing BANDQUEST. I had already done it mabey 4 times but every time I get a different band. It’s only 26 days before the real competition and our band was pretty good seeing that it was our first time practicing together.

Our band sounded really good! We played two songs: Happen to me (By BENEE) and So True (By the Black Seeds).I was on an epic guitar solo for Happen to me and Bass for So True. Josie was on guitar with Louie, and Harry. (Who was away) Nathan was on drums and Me and Ella were on vocals. We need serious practice.

After packing up our gear we sat outside and my dad (the coach thingy) helped us come up with a name. He said that if we didn’t agree to a cool name he would call us waiariti like he called Campion,  Campon.  We wanted our band name to be called BACK DOOR but dad said that it was another name for your BUT. So finally we settled on OPEN DOORZ. Since we were climbing over the blue double doors at the rear end of the hall.

MY GOALS

This week I have figured out all my goals and I am trying to get them all done so I can go to the next goals.  Once I have done all my goals I can mark them off on my check in so I can move up to a higher level in Reading, Writing, and Maths.

I have been so focused on my writing I am forgetting to come to my Maths workshops and do Maths Whizz, so I had to do it all this morning.

Me, Charlotte and Tallulah have been making a picture book about a Little Blue Penguin. Hopefully it will be released next Friday. Sadly, it's just me and Charlotte because Tallulah is moving to Newic in England. Our picture book is supposed to be short but we turned it into the worlds longest novel. It has at least 4-3 paragraphs on each topic so we a trying to shorten it down. It will probably be the first picture book I have ever completed.

Enviro action

 Enviro action day

Enviro actionday is the day when MLH do some mahī in the garden.

Last friday we went down to the beach and collected Kelp for our gardens. Then we hung it up on the fence to dry for 1 week and a ½.

All day one ⅛ th of the kids in MLH (including me) Ran back and forth carrying buckets and wheelbarrows of seaweed to spread on the gardens. So koka Rosie left us in charge of the gardens for Wednesday, but I was sick so they crossed out my name.

On wednesday, I was surprised to see that my name had been crossed out. So I had to go down and compete in the rubbish competition (I thought I would come last).

We each got a bucket and walked down the beach looking for rubbish. We got heaps! And it turned out that there was a prize for the most amount of rubbish. My group  got 49 cigarette butts and 17 pieces of metal. Our total of rubbish was 337! And we won! Me, Ivy and Josie won a japanese lollipop that was like little sushi’s but there was one sashimi.

Josie got the sashimi and me and Ivy got sushi lollipop.

Gymfest

 Gym fest

On Tuesday 25th of May,  Me and the rest of the people in B grade gymnastics competed in the gymnastics festival. I went in Olivia's car with Rio, Lila, Loosy, Dixie and Olivia. When we got there, there was a big "hot chips" stall that everyone went to. Everyone ate them but I didn't because all of the teachers said: "do not by your kids treats or you will have to by the hole class treats". I guess that the teachers hadn't planed that!

Wainui beach schools B grade gym got to practice in the trampoline club which was like a giant gym room with to massive trampolines in the middle. There, with all the other schools that were competing, we warmed up on the floor. Volt and Beam. When it was our turn we got split into 10 groups. In my group there was Ivy, Rio, Me, Amber and Millie. When we got called out we marched out as the crowed applauded us.

First we did the floor routine I was waiting 29 people before I got my turn. My score turned out lower than I expected because my backwards roll had such forse I nearly did another one! My score was 7.9.               Then we did the Beam. I got a high score of 8.7! Which I was very happy about! Lastly we did Volt. And I got a 7.8.  You can guess which one I had the highest points for! Well I thought that I would be very bad but it turned out to be the best. But It could have been better (if I had not forgot to lift my left leg up and hold it there for 2 seconds!)

Then we begged Olivia's mum to stay and watch our friend do their rhythmical ( I wish I had entered!)       It sucked because there was only 2 teams so they both got to got compete again (last night!) They were so good! The rhythmical team nailed it with their round offs, back flips, Aerials and trippel walk overs. A four girls did the back tuck with their friends.

Gymnastics Practice

Gymnastics practice

On Mondays and Fridays we do gymnastics practice for the gymnastics festival. We do Volt, Beam and floor routines. I am in B grade and I am finding the second half of the Volt scary.

Volt

Volt is a box with a soft red padding on the top. It is made of wood to help it hold us up when we are on them. We run up to the box, jump on the springs (they help us push off) Then we jump up onto the box in a straddle-like position and dismount off like we are landing on a motorbike. Next we do the same but this time we put our hands in the middle and do a straddle over the Volt without touching it with our legs.

 Beam

It’s a bit hard to explain our Beam routine.

We sallout our judges and then push off without getting on. Then I will swing one of my legs around so it looks like I’m riding a horse. Then I put my right leg on the beam (kneeling and holding on) and lift my left leg up high and count 2 seconds. I swing my left leg up in front of my right leg and stand up. I dip my foot down low on the side then take fancy tip-toe steps across. Then I do it again. When I reach the end I turn around and lift my right leg up for 2 second then I take 2 steps across and dismount off in a star-jump.

Floor

Salout our judges and then quarter turn and forward roll. Half turn, Backward roll( then we jump up) quarter turn 2 side sashays. Half turn 2 more side sashays the straight into a cartwheel.

Cooks Cove and the Earthquake

Cooks Cove walk and the Earthquake

I woke up to a fresh start ready for Cooks Cove walk. I had packed my bag the day before so I could get to school nice and early. I had already experienced the 4 times and so knew what to pack.

My class and I had been put into groups to drive, Then we would change groups for the walk. We gathered at the bottom of the hill. Once we were in our groups we lined up in a single file with our parent Lee at the back.  The reason why we did this walk was because we were training for Camp. Koka Rosie and Koka Nagrie said that Cooks Cove was similar to the walks up at camp.

On the walk me and Kale’a were yapping away about the steep drop at our feet. By half way all the mussels in our bodies were aching and pleading to stop and rest. But with our cherreyness and Lee’s jokes it kept us going. As we past we thought if we were mini pixies then we could live in the nooks and crannies and all the possible places, Then, our thoughts were interrupted by the sound of gasping and hushing me and kale’a hurried forward to see a tiny morepork staring down at us with beady eyes. But the kids in front of us got louder and the morepork flew away.

With great pride we walked to the end feelling happy. Then we got to the cove, It had a big dotted smiley face engraved into it. It was high tide, so there was no going for and explore along the dry powdery rocks.

That night I was woke up. It was about 2 in the morning and I remembered about the morepork. Just as I was about to doze off I was startled by tremendous shaking . I called out to mum but she was already ready. She leaped out of bed and yanked clem up. All my nerves were feeling like they could pop out of my bodie. After it had gone mum raced to the bed grabbed a blanket and a sleeping bag and raced to our car with us tailing close behind. When we got in the car mum explained that there was a warning called long and strong be gone. We evacuated to Wheatstone hill about 90 other cars were up there(luckily we were one of the first ones up there). After 4 hours up on the hill we headed back down(there was still cars arriving) When we were at home we were going to go back to sleep when the Tsunami warning went off again. Oh what a night!
